Wride on time for the Dynamos
Wride on time for the Dynamos

Netminder David Wride believes the Invicta Dynamos recent run of form has come at just the right time for the side.

Five wins on the trot in the cup and league have seen the Dynamos turn their season around after a sticking start and wins at the weekend against the Bracknell Hornets (11-0) and the Wightlink Raiders (3-2) have seen renewed optimism filter through Kevin Parrish’s side.

Signed in the summer from the Chelmsford Chieftains, Wride has featured in the last three games, but admitted the win over Bracknell was hard despite having little to do:

“Games where you win 11-0 aren’t as physically tough and I only faced 25 shots, but you have to stay mentally switched on.”

“I find it harder when you are in games where there is always something going on as you are always active. That’s when you need your team-mates to help you out.”

The change of fortunes for the side hasn’t been a coincidence for Wride who told KSN how it was down to hard work:

“I think at the beginning of the season we had a lot of new faces in, me included and I think it took a while for people to settle in and know each other.”

“Maybe we were a little too relaxed and we knew we had the talent, but over the weeks Kev (Parrish) has told us off and we’ve had to work hard in practice.”

“Over these last five games it has started to come together and winning against Wightlink was crucial. For me, and possibly some of the other guys, the cups aren’t as important. Winning the league is and getting a win against the Isle of Wight was massive as it was their first loss this season.”

“Something the guys always talk about is how you make your own luck. When things aren’t going for you, pucks don’t land for you. We were playing teams and they were getting the luckiest goals, but you make your own luck.”

“The more you keep winning, the more confident you feel and that’s when things will go your way. That doesn’t mean you can stop working and think things will go for you.”

Competition for places is hot throughout the Dynamos squad this season, no more so than between the two netminders, Wride and Andy Moffat with the former admitting he was having to work hard to keep his place:

“We have got a little thing going on me and Moff. I sat out a few games with Moff in the side whilst we were winning. He had that little hiccup against Romford the other week. I got to go in and we have won every game since.”

“That’s three on the bounce since I have taken over, but we will keep pushing each other really hard. I can’t afford to relax because he is sitting there right behind me waiting to go in.”

“We have got a full roster and there are some guys sitting there that don’t get a lot of ice that are still capable of playing regular shifts, so the guys that are getting all the shifts, if they’re not playing right, Kev has no qualms about bringing another guy in.”

“It doesn’t matter if you get two shifts a game, or twenty shifts a game, you’re still part of the team and your job is just as important.”

With five straight wins under their belts, the Dynamos season is looking a lot brighter and the 25 year old believes the side could go on and win the league from this position:

“I think without a doubt, we can win this league. As long as we keep what we’re doing going and don’t get complacent. We are getting our results because of hard work and the effort we are putting in week in, week out.”

“We have got a great vibe in the room which has been the same since the start. We need to keep that good mood going, keep working hard and keep winning games and I can pretty much guarantee we will finish the season at the top of the table.”
